RAIFE BURCHELL / MUSIC SUPERVISOR

Kwes is an award-winning composer, music producer and artist hailing from London.

Kwes' foray into composing began with a bang. He scored Raine Allen Miller’s debut feature film, Rye Lane (Searchlight/Disney)- a British rom-com set in South London. This work not only marked his own feature debut but also earned him the prestigious 2023 BIFA award for Best Original Music. His composing extends beyond feature films, with original scores for Netflix's documentary short Little Miss Sumo about sumo wrestler Hiroyi Kon, as well as original music for advertising campaigns for renowned brands like Selfridges and ASOS.

Beyond his work as a film and TV composer, Kwes is signed to legendary British label Warp as a solo artist. As a producer, his sought-after talents have graced the music of an impressive roster of artists, including Mica Levi, Damon Albarn, Bobby Womack, Solange Knowles, Sampha, Loyle Carner, Black Coffee, Nubya Garcia, Tirzah, Lucy Rose and many more.

When Kwes is not crafting sonic landscapes, you might find him exploring the city on his trusty bicycle.

DIE MY LOVE

In a forgotten patch of countryside, a woman is battling her demons: embracing exclusion yet wanting to belong, craving freedom whilst feeling trapped, yearning for family life but wanting to burn the entire house down. Given leeway by her family for her increasingly erratic behaviour, she nevertheless feels ever more stifled and repressed. Motherhood, womanhood, the banality of love, the terrors of desire, the brutality of another person carrying your heart forever.

Lynne Ramsay, the film's iconic director, says of the film, "At the heart of this story is the complexity of love and how it can change and transform over time. I aimed to keep it grounded, human, spontaneous and funny at times, capturing the moments that feel small but carry a lot of weight. This film is for anyone who's ever been in a relationship – there's heartbreak and beauty in vulnerability."

Die, My Love stars Jennifer Lawrence, Robert Pattinson, Sissy Spacek, Nick Nolte, and LaKeith Stanfield, and is produced by Andrea Calderwood, Justine Ciarrocchi, Jennifer Lawrence, Martin Scorsese, Molly Smith, Trent Luckinbill and Thad Luckinbill.

What If / MUSIC SUPERVISION BY RAIFE BURCHELL

We were thrilled to have been asked to help find musical talent for ‘What If’, a short film directed by STREETDANCE duo Max and Dania, produced by Vertigo Films and commissioned by BBC Films and Film Four as part of the 2012 London Film Festival programme. 'What if’ is a rendering of Rudyard Kipling’s much loved poem If; and tells the story of Joe (George Sargeant), a young teen, who learns, through an older, wiser man, played by Noel Clarke, the fundamental life lessons on nobility, patience and generosity; lessons on how to become an admirable young man.

Check out Bigz, Lady Leshurr , and none other than Faith SFX doing their thing in the film - also keep an eye out for screenings on BBC iPlayer, 4OD and Cineworld and Odeon cinemas.
