Whoza Mtwana by Abdullah Ibrahim (At Montreux): Since I was a young boy this classic has touched me over and over again. Abdullah Ibrahim makes you empty. I don't think there is anything as beautiful as Carlos Ward's Saxophone Solo.

Carolyn's Fingers by Cocteau Twins: Elizabeth Fraser's voice brings together life and death. They can't be ripped apart… even if the intellect tries to do so.

Baby by Gal Costa, Caetano Veloso: A classic of pure yearning.

From The Morning by Nick Drake: A song of my childhood. Nick Drake is my father's favourite. His timeless simplicity is still hovering around, luckily.

Mohabbat by Arooj Aftab: Listening to this song, no object-projected desires are left. One becomes desire itself. When you yourself are not there, this is called 'objective art’.

My World by Charles Manson: How tender and vulnerable Mr. Manson is in this. It makes me wonder if there's blame. His world may have been a sad world but surely he had his eyes wide open as it happened.

Stay Cool by Tete Mbambisa: My brother and I listened to this one a lot. It leaves no marks. The word 'acceptance' thrown out of the window leaving what it's meant to mean. Stay cool and you're enlightened.

Please Go Easy With Me by S.E. Rogie: This song is like an orange sunset. S.E. Rogie sings so sweet it hurts.

Devotion No. 1 by Loop Guru: It might happen that you lose the idea through which you look at your bodyparts with the result that you're left with… no body.

Mestre Rei Dos Mares Chegou by A Barca: No more words… listen!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JACK WHITE, THANKS FOR EVERYTHING!

unnamed-6.jpg

Happy Birthday to singer, songwriter, multiple band member and 12-time Grammy winner Jack White.

He’s worked with Beck, Loretta Lynn, The Rolling Stones, Nas, Bob Dylan, Alicia Keys, acted in Cold Mountain, and even played Elvis Presley in the cult (fake) biopic Walk Hard.

All this from the guy who studied upholstery and planned to become a priest.

Thanks for all the joy you've given us. Have a great day Mr. White!

Just checked out these two new soundtrack releases this week and we’re buzzing!

Devonté Hynes aka Blood Orange has been a busy bee. He's just scored HBO’s revival of US drama In Treatment and has also written and recorded the track Born To Be for the political thriller Beckett on Netflix.

And the mighty Mica Levi is back with an avant-garde xylophone frenzie of a score for the dark comedy Zola, a story based on a viral Twitter thread about two women who travel to Florida for a wild weekend. Variety calls it ’scandalously intoxicating’.
