Dirty Soup warmly welcomes Brian Crosby to its composer roster.

As well as scoring global advertising campaigns for brands such as Samsung, Google, Under Armour, Dodge, Toyota, and Uniqlo, Brian’s also collaborated in TV and Film with a head-spinning stable of composers including Hildur Guõnadóttir, Dustin O’Halloran, Rutger Hoedemaekers, and the late, great Jóhann Jóhannsson.

We couldn’t be more excited to have Brian as part of the team!

Warren Ellis is releasing a book titled 'Nina Simone's Gum'. It chronicles an enchanting tale about when Ellis snuck up on stage to “steal” a piece of gum she'd stuck underneath her piano after an electrifying performance.

The book is described as 'a celebration of the artistic process and friendship' and will be released by Faber & Faber on 2nd September.

Two musical geniuses. What’s not to love?!

The Needle Drop: TRANSPARENT

Today’s Needle Drop is Alice Boman’s Waiting, chosen by Normal People music supervisor Juliet Martin.

Juliet says - “I gobbled up the series Transparent which came out a number of years ago. I loved its take on a dysfunctional family in LA and the upheaval in their lives following the discovery that their father is a trans woman named Maura.

Swedish singer-songwriter Alice Bowman had her track Waiting featured twice during episode 9, season 2. Once right before the end and then, again, with the Pal remix version over the end credits. It had such an impact with its first use that it is a wonderful way for viewers to be brought back to that emotion as the series ends. It really is a great illustration of the emotional power of music.

The first usage scores a complex scene: Maura rejected at a women’s festival which is supposedly a safe place. The lines blur between the family’s present and past - a raid by Nazis on their ancestors’ museum in 1933. The track is so beautiful and achingly sad - the lyrics Are You Coming Back suggest loss and speak to the main storyline.”

the record of the week: department of corrections by deerhoof

unnamed-2.jpg

Dirty Soup founder Raife Burchell’s record of the week is Department of Corrections by Deerhoof.

Raife says - “Deerhoof sure are prolific! They’ve released a whopping 18 albums since forming in San Francisco in 1994. I got into them when a producer pal of mine in Berlin played me their infectious cover of The Staples Singers' Freedom Highway. I’m really into their new single. It's totally in keeping with their distinctive sugary experimental pop weirdness. Make sure you download it and look out for the full album release on October 22nd.”
